Things have been absolutely insane lately - well for the past 2 years, more or less. I'd love to blog more but end up spending most of my time backing up hard drives, formatting CF cards, taking photos, filming and so on blah blah blah. I don't know how people keep up with all this technology, it's insane.

Regardless, I wanted to post a few random tidbits to show everyone what I've been working on. Last weekend I spent almost all of my time photographing skateboarder friends. I actually got to watch them skateboard one day which is pretty unusual as I normally just shoot their portraits. It was fun.

Michael Burnett captured this lovely shot of me photographing Dee at KCDC. Look at my face, photography is so glamorous. See more photos here.

And this past weekend, I flew to Los Angeles to film Toxic Holocaust and Holy Grail play their last show of a 6.5 week tour. I haven't mentioned it much (if at all) on this blog but I've been working on a project for the past year and a half, it involves heavy metal and that's all I'll say for now. Here I am in the background, filming. It's hard to see but I'm there, promise.

And throughout all of this I've been working on edits for my new website. Not sure when it will launch, I'm taking my time. However here's a visual snippet, so much more in the works!

Hawaii!

ahhh Hawaii... Nothing like staying on the North Shore for 8 days. I almost cried when I left. I surfed for the first time on Sunset Beach, got tips on underwater photography from legendary surf photographer Jim Russi and surf filmer Dave Homcy. I ate fruit straight off the tree, saw sea turtles. We would take breaks from shooting to swim in the ocean for 10 minutes here and there. Totally bonkers.

Went to Argentina and then Hawaii this past August and September - it was crazy fun!

I didn't take one single snapshot while in either place as I had an H2 glued to my brain all day long however - trusty assistant, Patrick Buckley took a billion snaps.

Andes mountains, Bariloche, Argentina - this view was out of control. I kept having to remind myself that they were real mountains and that I was really there.

It's been forever since I've curated an art show and I'm super, super excited about this one!

Four years ago photographer Jai Tanju started the 'Print Exchange Program' AKA 'Film Por Vida' - whereupon any person could mail Jai an image as a postcard or letter and provided there was a return address, Jai would mail a print back. Four years and a now successful blog later Jai has accumulated over 1,000 pieces of incredible visual mail!

Created solely for the love of photography, Jai makes absolutely no money on the project. 'Film Por Vida' comes straight from the heart.

On October 23rd, FILM POR VIDA: A PRINT EXCHANGE PROGRAM will exhibit the collection from hundreds of photographers, artists and film lovers. I shot this photo in 2002, I think. Friend, Jordin Isip was putting on a show in Brooklyn and asked a ton of artists to contribute. The assignment was to suggest a horizontal line of sorts about an inch or so above the bottom of a supplied 4x6 board.

At the time I was hanging out with Shelly Zander quite a bit. We would meet up during the week, in the middle of the afternoon at Kate's Joint in Manhattan and pretty much spend the entire day commiserating. Hahaha... I absolutely adore this image.

It's funny going through my old images, I keep my friends around forever it seems. I stumbled on this shot recently and immediately added it to my website. I still hang out with Shelly regularly and thought it would be fun to send her the photo, catch up and see what she's been doing.

Angela: What were you doing in life when that photo was taken?
Shelly: Well, I was probably wondering at the time "Why is Ang having me wear these gloves of her's"? I have yet to this day wear leather w/studs at my own will... maybe I should start? Anyone have a hot mini skirt?

What were you up to?
Hmmm... Max Fish till 4am rings a bell.

What were your goals at that time?
If memory serves correct, trying to make enough cash to start an animal sanctuary - which has basically accumulated in my apartment now... Let the poop picking up ceremony commence! [Shelly has 2 big dogs, Nico and Louie and 2 cats, Stella and Remy]

What have you been doing since the photo was taken?
Well... I got this awesome new pair of shoes, they were the best! Until I grew out of them or I wore them out? The animals kept comin'... Everyone has a blog, except me. Now I buy music on the internet and still make frequent trips to Wisconsin.

Do you feel like you're a different person now compared to then?
I have a dishwasher and air conditioning, that's pretty life changing.

What are your goals right now?
To wash the beet stain out of my fingernails. I just made borscht soup.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Hanging with animals, kids and good friends around a fire pit... bug spray in hand.

One of my favorite people in the whole world, I met Becca Woolf over ten years ago in Los Angeles. We bonded really fast due to the fact that we were both completely out of our minds at the time. Fast forward to modern day and Rebecca is one of the most successful "mom bloggers" out there. Worried that her job as a writer would take a back seat to her new family - Becs made a career out of being a mother and is currently kicking ass, big time. She's a wife and a mom and a total bad ass. She doesn't give a shit what people think, really. She's a huge inspiration.

It's weird to see a photo of her not laughing, honestly. She's always in good spirits however this shot definitely represents a different, more serious potentially more romantic side of her. Long story short, Becca RULES. She's the best.

P.S. She's drinking an actual BEER float here, with ice cream. Apparently it was hideous.

I moved to NYC in 1993 and didn't know anyone. I met a few people at college but they were concerned with all sorts of god-knows-what so I would spend my time walking downtown and going to hardcore shows at CBGB's, amongst other places.

Recently Jesse from Yuppicide asked for a few images from the past for an LP they're releasing super soon. I shot live bands for 7 years before I even thought about shooting portraits! I'll post more shots of bands from the '90s when I get a sec...

They were gonna let me smash the windshield after the shoot but we ran out of time. This is a good thing, however, because I probably would have stabbed my eye out somehow.

Guru was an amazing guy - I photographed him back in 2000 for Platform.net and chit-chatted with him quite a bit in between set-ups. He was an incredibly genuine person and had a really vibrant energy when he spoke.

I had just photographed a story for XXL on rappers and their children a week prior and Guru was really interested in being photographed for a similar story if XXL were to do one again.
